Hello Maryland FFA Members!
Annie and I had a great time at Walkersville high school yesterday, when we visited their chapter. We did a workshop on FFA opportunities and used a cafe theme to communicate our message. In the FFA cafe, we served up an appetizer where the students had to build structures out of spaghetti and marshmellows, then they had to suspend dixie cups off of them and try to fill them with as many pennies as they could. This was a teamwork activity. Our main course was a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Annie and I had a great time acting dumb and pretending not to know how to make a PB&J sandwich. The members had to use teamwork and communication skills for this activity. For dessert, they made their own "Dream FFA Sundaes". They had to relate every topping they had to FFA in some way. We got some very interesting ideas like chocolate syrup represents strength and a cherry on top represents the fruit sales that we do. Then we made them pay for their meal OF COURSE! But Annie and I picked up the tab for this one with some fake FFA checks. "Time is money" and they learned that it is very easy to spend their money on FFA opportunities, from the FFA Cafe menu, and their time as well, when they participate in the FFA activities. At the end of the session we had time for some "fish bowl" question, which Annie cleverly disguised as fortune cookies. Everyone had a great time and Annie and I were exhausted by the end f the day, but it was worth it! We can't wait to come back for the classes next semester.
